Laetitia Rocke is an exciting contemporary artist, living and working in South Wales. After graduating from the University of Wales, Newport with a BAHons in Graphics, Laetitia moved to London where she worked for five years specialising in book design and corporate graphics. In 1999 she returned to Cardiff, where she continued her career as senior designer for Brazil Design Limited. Due to the constraints of graphic design, Laetitia needed to find an outlet for self-expression and experimentation in her work, developing into a series of canvases starting to explore the stimulating world of colour, tone and balance.

Whilst there is a constant underlying approach and style to all her paintings, Laetitia finds inspiration in the subtle nuances of light and shade; combining this with an appreciation of the relationships found between colour and texture - Laetitia’s work is both exciting and emotive.
All the works are acrylic on linen, and the paint is applied with a dry brush forming many layers. Laetitia does not use a palette, embracing the purity of each glaze and its interaction with the existing and following layer.

The result is an abstract exploration of thought, expression and memory;
the juxtaposition of contemporary colours and natural tones is an important journey in the cycle of blank space to finished canvas.
